I'm Ryan from ExtremeTerrain.com, and thisis my review of the Bestop Sunrider for hard top fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs. This isavailable in the twill material that you see here, and it's also available in black diamondfor a few dollars less. This product is designed to replace the freedom panels on your hardtop with a soft top section that acts very much like the sunrider feature on your fullfactory soft top. So, if you're somebody who likes to take thefreedom panels out a lot to give you that open air driving feel but thinks it's a littlebit cumbersome and that they're a little bit heavy, and also wants to make sure that youdon't scratch and damage the freedom panels, taking them on and off all the time, thisis a really nice option. You can very easily unclip the front header, flip back the sunriderfeature, and all of a sudden you have the open air driving experience that you're afterwithout all of the fuss of removing and reinstalling the freedom panels. Now, this is an expensive item, especiallythe twill version that you see here on the table. But, in my opinion, if you're somebodywho has a hard top and doesn't want to go full soft top but wants to more easily getthat open air driving experience, this is 100% the way to go. Like most things Bestop, this is a really complete product.
Bestop assumes that you only have a hard top on yourJeep, and therefore includes the door surrounds, as well as all the other hardware that youneed to get this attached onto your vehicle. As I said before, it comes in two differentmaterials, the twill which is really similar to your premium factory soft top material, and a black diamond material. The twill is a higher quality material. It's heavier. Itfeels better. It looks better.
In my opinion, it's all around a better option. However,it is going to be more expensive than the black diamond, so it does come down to yourbudget. As I said before, overall this is an expensive part although it is a very usefulone. This top is going to install on your Jeepvery easily. Of course you'll have your hard top installed, and the first step in gettingthis put on is to remove your freedom panels. From there you'll install the door surroundsthat come with this setup.
Then, you can bolt this frame onto the door surrounds. Thereare also a couple of clips that you'll have to install to attach the frame of your newsoft top section onto your sound bar. And then it's just a matter of closing thetop and securing it across the top of the windshield with these factory style clips. This setup also comes with a couple of Velcro loops to put on the frame when you do havethe sunrider feature flipped back to keep things from flapping and moving around inthe wind. The whole installation should only take you about an hour.
You won't need anyspecialty tools, just a socket set, some screwdrivers and some Allen keys. Now there is one area that you'll have tomake a little slit in the factory roll bar padding to be able to get all of your hardwarefor your new frame attached. In my opinion, that's not a big deal. Even if you were toremove this and go with a soft top or go back to your hard freedom panels, it's not somethingyou're ever really going to notice or see, so it certainly wouldn't keep me from purchasingand installing this product. Like I've said before, Bestop products area little bit more expensive than some of the competition, but, in my opinion, they're worthit.
They make really high quality products that are going to last a good long time, andthe kits are very complete. You're going to have everything you need to get this installedright in the box that it comes in. The only thing you'll need from your factory Jeep arethe mushroom knobs that hold the freedom panels into the sound bar. Everything else, you'regonna have. You're not going to have to worry about ordering anything else.
It all comesright in the box for you. In my opinion, even though this is an expensivepiece, it's worth it. If I had a hard top on my JK, I would definitely be saving upfor one of these. I'm one of those people that likes the open air driving experience. And having wrestled with the JK freedom panels a few times and, I'm ashamed to say, nickingone of them moving it around, I think this is a sound investment. If you have a hardtop on your JK and you like the security, the quietness and the durability of that hardtop but you want to make having the open air driving experience for the front two passengersa little bit easier than removing your hard freedom panels, this Sunrider soft top isa great addition to your hard top. While it is a little bit pricey, in my opinion,it's completely worth it for the functionality. That's my review of the Bestop Sunrider forhard top fitting all 2007 to 2016 JKs that you can find right here at ExtremeTerrain.com.
